Ashen Expeditions
How to recruit Ashens, fill dungeon party slots, start an expedition, reroll the roster, and understand rewards.
Overview
Ashen Expeditions are a custom party-support system for dungeon play. They let you recruit temporary virtual party members called Ashens when you do not have enough real players to fill a dungeon party.
Ashens behave like party members in the world. They can appear beside you, follow the expedition caller, fight monsters, use class skills, bring summons, and help keep a party moving when the server population is low.
They are meant to support normal party play, not replace it. Real players are still better, more flexible, and receive the actual rewards.
Recruiting Ashens
Dungeon Manager NPCs at dungeon entrances offer the Ashen Expedition option.
When you recruit Ashens:
- The system checks your current party.
- Empty party slots are filled with Ashens up to the normal party limit of 8 members.
- If you are already in a party, only the current party leader can recruit Ashens for that party.
- The Ashens temporarily take control of the party setup.
- Party loot is changed to random while the expedition is active.
- The original party leader remains the expedition caller.
If you are not in a party, the Ashens create a temporary expedition party and invite you into it.
Rerolling
After recruiting, you can reroll the Ashen roster before starting the expedition.
Rerolling is useful if the generated party composition does not fit what you need. For example, you may want a different mix of damage dealers, support classes, tanks, or healers.
Current reroll rules:
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Rerolls per recruitment | 2 |
| Reroll timing | Before starting |
| Reroll effect | Replaces the recruited Ashen roster |
Once the expedition has started, the roster can no longer be rerolled.
Starting The Expedition
Recruiting does not immediately spawn Ashens into the world. This lets you prepare the party first, move to the dungeon area, and then start when ready.
Use:
/startashes
When started, the Ashens spawn near the expedition caller and begin acting as party members.
Commands
The Ashen commands are available to normal players.
| Command | Use |
|---|---|
/startashes | Spawn the recruited Ashens and begin the expedition. |
/rerollashes | Reroll the recruited Ashen roster before starting. |
/ashesstatus | Check the current expedition status. |
/endashes | End the expedition and dismiss the Ashens. |
Only the expedition caller can use the control commands for an active Ashen party. In an existing party, this means the player who was party leader when Ashens were recruited.
Duration
Ashen Expeditions last 80 minutes.
During the expedition, Ashens periodically remind the party how much time remains. If Ashens were recruited but not started yet, they may also remind the party to start the expedition.
When the timer expires, the Ashens leave automatically.
Party Ownership
Ashens temporarily manage the party while the expedition is active.
For an existing party:
- The party itself is kept.
- Ashens fill only the missing slots.
- The original party leader is remembered.
- The Ashens temporarily take party ownership.
- When the expedition ends, ownership is returned to the original leader when possible.
- If the original leader is unavailable, ownership is given to another real party member.
- The Ashens leave the party.
This keeps the real party together while still letting the Ashen system control the temporary members cleanly.
Ashen Characters
Each Ashen is generated from the expedition caller's progression.
Ashens use the caller's character level and job progression as the base for generation. Their class, race, appearance, equipment, skills, and summon are then generated for the expedition.
Every Ashen has a name in the format:
[Ashes]Name
Ashens are temporary. They are not saved as player characters and disappear when the expedition ends.
Summons
Ashens can bring summons.
Their summons are generated for the Ashen's level and can appear in evolved forms at higher levels. Ashen summons can follow, fight, and use their own learned skills where supported.
Summons are part of the Ashen's temporary expedition setup and disappear with their owner.
Combat Behavior
Ashens try to act according to their class role.
General behavior includes:
- Tanks try to engage enemies and use threat skills.
- Healers prioritize keeping party members alive.
- Support classes try to keep useful buffs active.
- Damage dealers use offensive skills and attacks.
- Pet classes can support their summons where possible.
- Ashens and their summons assist when the expedition caller attacks a monster.
Ashens are not perfect players. They are there to make dungeon groups possible, not to play every situation as well as a coordinated real party.
Rewards And Loot
Ashens do not keep loot.
Reward behavior:
- Real players can receive their normal loot share.
- Loot assigned to Ashens disappears.
- Party loot is random while Ashens are active.
- Ashens do not receive persistent rewards.
- Ashens do not count the same way as real players for reward scaling.
The system is designed so Ashens help you clear content, while the real players remain the ones who benefit from the run.
Bosses
Ashen boss participation is limited.
For now, do not rely on Ashens for boss-specific participation or boss reward handling. Use them mainly to help move through dungeon content and regular combat.
Leaving The Area
An Ashen Expedition remembers the channel and layer where it was recruited.
If the expedition caller leaves that channel or layer, the system gives them a short grace period to return. If they do not return in time, the Ashens disband.

Player Advice
- Recruit Ashens at the Dungeon Manager before entering a dungeon run.
- Reroll before starting if the roster looks too awkward.
- Start the expedition only after the party is ready and near the area you want to clear.
- Treat Ashens as helpers, not guaranteed replacements for real coordination.
- Keep an eye on the timer during longer runs.
- End the expedition when you are done so the party can return to normal ownership and loot behavior.
